What is Wellness?

Wellness is defined as “the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.There are a variety of ways one can actively work to achieve balance. That can take place in the form of self-care. 

Self-care is a key component to achieving and maintaining wellness. It does not need to be grandiose, though it is nice to be intentional about the choices we make to reach our optimal health.

This can mean putting your phone on “Do Not Disturb” during the evening to spend uninterrupted time with your family. It can be taking the time to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and read a book. Learning to Live Well

Learn ways to gain and maintain physical balance through the art of Tai Chi. Quiet your mind with heartfulness meditation. Be present by sitting with others in a support group. There is something for everyone. 

Ask your medical oncologist regarding our Integrative Oncology program led by Dr. Heidi Rula. The goal of Integrative Oncology is to enhance our patient’s wellness and improve their quality of life while treating cancer with conventional oncology care.

If you are seeking individualized care, Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers has licensed social workers available to assist you. We treat depression, anxiety, and daily stress related to a cancer diagnosis. The important thing to remember is that you are not alone, and reaching out for help is a sign of strength. Jessica Wells Integrative Services Ironwood cancer & Research Centers

Jessica is a Licensed Master Social Worker who graduated from Arizona State University with a Masters Degree in Social Work in 2011.  Jessica also received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies from Arizona State University.

She has 12 years experience in the following sectors: child welfare, general pediatrics, pediatric intensive care, pediatric hematology/oncology, and the acute mental health/behavioral healthcare setting.
