Veteran Health Resources
On behalf of the staff at Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers, we would like to thank all of our veterans and their families for the sacrifices they have made for our country. November 11th is Veteran’s Day and this national holiday honors all of those have served our country in both war and peaceful times.
In observation of this holiday, we would like to highlight some of the resources and supports available to our veterans through Veterans Affairs (VA). There are a variety of health services available to Veterans if you are eligible and have applied to receive benefits.
Some of these services include, but not limited to:
- Travel pay reimbursement to and from approved medical appointments
- Registered Dietitian Services
- Weight Management
- Tobacco Cessation (assistance and education to quit smoking)
- Home Health Aides
- Respite Care
- Caregiver Support
- Homeless Veteran Resources and Housing Assistance
To apply for benefits, you will need to gather the documents listed below and fill out an Application for Health Benefits (VA Form 10-10EZ). This application is available online at va.gov
Your most recent tax return
Social Security numbers for yourself and your qualified dependents
Account numbers for any current health insurance you already have (like Medicare, private insurance, or insurance from your employer)
Once you have the documentation prepared, you can complete the application in one of three ways.
- A completed application can be mailed to Health Eligibility Center, 2957 Clairmont Rd., Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30329
- Call our toll-free hotline at 877-222-8387, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Visit your local VA Center or medical clinic in person
The VA will review your application and make a determination about eligibility. The average wait time for a decision is one week.
If you are a veteran and need help accessing supports and services, feel free to contact our Supportive Care Services Department by calling 480-314-6660 or emailing socialwork@ironwoodcrc.com. One of our dedicated Social Workers would be happy to assist you.
