Breast Surgeon

"I am grateful beyond measure that she is my physician. She definitely deserves a 5-star rating."

Dr. Rashmi Pradhan Vaidya is a Breast Cancer Surgeon in practice since 2009. She is double Board Certified in Surgery having completed her General Surgery Residency at the prestigious Seth G.S Medical College and KEM Hospital Mumbai India (2000) and again the US where she did another general Surgery residency and finished with a Breast Surgical Oncology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic (2009). She also trained in Minimally Invasive Breast Surgery and cryoablation at the Kameda Medical Center in Japan (2015). She has been practicing exclusively breast surgical oncology since 2009.

Dr. Vaidya practices a patient-centered, evidence-based approach to breast cancer treatment and engages in a collaborative, multidisciplinary breast cancer care for each patient. Decisions regarding the type or the timing of surgery versus chemotherapy and need and extent of radiation treatments are coordinated with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and plastic surgeons to optimize the oncological and cosmetic excellence. Communication is also regularly kept up with patient ‘s primary care/referring physicians. Dr. Vaidya runs a prospective tumor board at Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers to facilitate these collaborative decisions. She also judiciously adopts innovations into her practice when indicated and safe. She participated in the ICE3 NIH trial for cryoablation/freezing of small breast cancers using liquid nitrogen, a procedure done using ultrasound guidance in the office setting under local anesthesia alone, with excellent results. She stays abreast of the latest updates in breast Cancer treatments by attending Breast cancer conferences and staying current with journals in her specialty besides completing continuous board certification requirements by American Board of Surgery on a regular basis.

Her surgical repertoire includes oncoplastic breast surgery, skin sparing, nipple sparing and modified radical mastectomies, sentinel node biopsy, axillary dissections, benign excisions and reconstructive breast procedures done in concert with plastic surgery. Her advanced training in Japan gives her the ability to offer a minimally invasive approach to select patients for certain breast surgery procedures.

In the office setting Dr. Vaidya sees patients for the following conditions: newly diagnosed breast cancer, abnormal mammogram requiring biopsy, minimally invasive ultrasound guided breast biopsy, genetic counseling for family history, risk assessment for high-risk pathology and benign breast diseases.

Dr. Vaidya is an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and serves on The Imaging Certification Committee, and the Ultrasound Review Committee.  Dr. Vaidya is also a registered yoga teacher (RYT 200) recognized by Yoga Alliance and incorporates yoga stretches and exercises in recommendations for her patients to follow. In her spare time, Dr. Vaidya enjoys reading gardening, hiking and traveling with her family.
