Emily Welker, MD is a board-certified general surgeon and a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist. She is originally from Michigan, which is where she completed most of her training. She received her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. After college, she worked for two years as an engineer at Terumo Heart. She went back to school to receive her medical degree at Michigan State University. She then completed 5 years of general surgery training at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She subsequently completed her fellowship training at the University of Southern California for breast surgical oncology.
Dr. Welker treats both benign and malignant breast disease. She advocates for a multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer care utilizing the different specialist teams involved. She also developed a passion for oncoplastic surgery while at USC under the guidance of her mentor Dr. Silverstein. She was awarded the Muzzy scholarship for oncoplastic surgery.
Dr. Welker is a member of The American College of Surgeons, The Society of Surgical Oncology and The American Society of Breast Surgeons.
